Legal
Plain language, no legalese padding. hypegapcheck is a solo, indie project — this page describes what actually happens, not a template.

There are no accounts. Nothing here requires you to sign up, log in, or hand over any personal information to use the tool.
When you scan a paper by pasting an arXiv or bioRxiv link, the result is published automatically to the public Discover feed — ranked alongside every other scan of that source. There is currently no way to delete or retract a URL-sourced scan once it's been published. If you don't want a paper's scan to appear publicly, don't scan it by URL.
When you upload a PDF directly, nothing is published unless you explicitly click "Share this report." If you do, only the extracted score and report are stored — never the PDF file itself.
hypegapcheck is a scoring tool, not professional, academic, or legal advice. The score is a best-effort, automated read of a paper's claims and statistics — it can be wrong, incomplete, or miss context a human reader would catch. Don't treat a Hype Gap score as a substitute for actually reading the paper.
The tool is provided as-is, with no warranty of accuracy, availability, or fitness for any particular purpose.
Privacy
Stored on our servers (Firestore): for every URL scan, and for any PDF upload you choose to share, we store the paper title, source URL (if any), the extracted claims/statistics, and the resulting score and report. That's it — no name, email, or account is attached, because none is ever collected.
Stored only on your device: your scan history (up to your last 20 scans) lives in your browser's local storage. It never reaches our servers and we have no way to see it. Clearing your browser's site data clears it too.
Never stored anywhere: the raw bytes of an uploaded PDF. We process the file to extract claims and statistics, then discard it — even if you later choose to share the result, only the extracted score and report are kept.
We don't run any analytics or tracking — no Google Analytics, no cookies for tracking, no third-party trackers. The only third parties involved in processing your scan are Google Cloud/Gemini, used to run the extraction pipeline itself, and Google Cloud Firestore, used for storage as described above.
